We are looking for a skilled Cook to prepare delicious meals according to the menu. You will cook dishes that will delight our customers with their taste and timely delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares and serves attractive and nutritionally balanced meals, promoting and reinforcing good nutritional habits; trying new foods, portion control and a balanced diet.
  • Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
  • Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
  • Cook food in various utensils or grillers
  • Check food while cooking to stir or turn
  • Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served
  • Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
  • Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
  • Check quality of ingredients
  • Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages
  • Planning menus according to a fixed budget and following guidelines on nutrition and healthy eating.
  • Supervising the work of catering staff, including allocation of duties and work rotas
  • Developing relationships with food suppliers
  • Complying with food safety legislation
  • Utilize Production Worksheets to plan proper amounts of ingredients to prepare menu items sufficient for the number of clients to be served.
  • Adhere to ingredients, measurements and cooking methods as stated on the recipes to meet the nutritional requirements .
  • Ensure that food supplies are securely stored.
  • Wearing proper cooking attire (i.e. apron, hat or hair net, gloves, etc.)

Job Requirements

  1. 2-3 years experience as cook preferably school cook
  2. Ability to prepare both Local and continental dishes an added advantage
  3. Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
  4. Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
  5. Ability to work in a team
  6. Very good communication skills
  7. Excellent physical condition and stamina
  8. High school diploma or equivalent; Diploma from a culinary school will be an advantage
  9. Knowledge of recipe development, general nutrition and large quantity food preparation.
  10. Thorough knowledge of safety and sanitation for food service.
  11. Knowledge of and ability to apply basic food preparation methods.
  12. Ability to maintain all equipment used in cooking, food preparation, food storage and cleaning/sanitation in a safe and efficient manner.
